Ireland

Ireland has introduced two price regulation systems in term of a feed-in tariff: Renewable Energy Feed in Tariff 2006 and Renewable Energy Feed in Tariff 2009. [54]

The first price regulation is available for all wind technologies, hydro power plants which capacity up to 5 MW and biomass power plants if they proof that fossil fuels are used only to start electricity production (amount of fossil fuel shall not exceed 10% of total used fuel). The tariff amount depends from technology and system size. Small wind parks (capacity up to 5 MW) receive 5,9 €ct/kWh and large farms (capacity exceed 5 MW) 5,7 €ct/kWh. Hydro and biomass power plants receive 7,2 €ct/kWh. [54]

The second price regulation which have been introduced in 2009 supports wind offshore, biogas, wave and tidal technologies. Offshore wind farms receives 14 €ct/kWh, wave and tidal systems 22 €ct/kWh and biogas power plants 12 €ct/kWh. Moreover large scale wind farms (capacity value above 5 MW) receive 15% of referential price. If the referential price is lower than the reference price (12 €ct/kWh), the difference between them are paid. However if the price is higher then the electricity supplier have to repaid that difference. [54]

In Ireland the RES does not have priority in grid connection but there are special procedures (group procedures) which promote them. System operator is entitled against the grid operator to conclude contract about grid connection. [54]

Regulation requirements in Ireland are Electricity Regulation Act 1999 (ERA), Renewable Energy Feed in Tariff (RE-FIT-2006) and Renewable Energy Feed in Tariff (REFIT 2009). [54]
