Researches

Fission technology has over 50 years now. According to all Chapter 2, it can be noticed that it is good technology but has a very important disadvantages and there is many elements that can be improved. R&D over further fission solutions are carried by Generation IV International Forum (GIF). Although the European Union takes part in Generation IV International Forum, it does not host the researches.

The EU is involved in researches in area of nuclear fusion. The next step in development of nuclear energy. The principle of the fusion is described in Provision 2.3.5 of the thesis. The studies have legitimacy in the legislation of European Union.

By the two Council Decision, the Commission has established starting framework for nuclear fusion development. First document, Council Decision 2007 / 614 / Euroatom [164] brings an agreement on joint implementation of nuclear fusion development between the Community and Government of Japan. The key of the agreement is to introduce "broader approach" in area of fusion. Second document, Council Decision 2007 / 198 / Euroatom [165], concerns a Joint Undertaking for ITER and overall fusion development.
