Generation IV

Generation IV International Forum ( GIF )

Taking into account nuclear industry status, growing requirements for reactors, energy demand increasing and impacts on clean energy GIF was initiated in 2001 to lay the groundwork for the new reactor design - generation IV systems. GIF is an international programme, uniting 13 members with the collective leader - USA. Other members are: European Union (represented by Euroatom), Russia, France, Japan, China, Brazil, Argentina, the UK, Canada, South Africa, Switzerland and South Korea. Today, there is 10 active members, obligated to participation in development of at least one nuclear system, chosen by GIF for further studies. Six technologies was presented by the GIF in 2002 after numbers of construction analysed to being considered in the future. They believe that selected solutions are meeting with assumed goals such as sustainability, safety & reliability, economics, proliferation resistance & physical protection. These system are: SFR ( Sodium Cooled Fast Reactor), SCWR (Supercritical Water cooled Reactor), GFR (Gas cooled Fast Reactor), LFR (Lead cooled Fast Reactor), MSR (Molten Salt Reactor).

According to [50] any Generation IV Energy System is planned to be deployable between 2020 and 2030. [50],[51],[52],[53]
