KERENA reactor

Formerly known as SWR1000 (Siede Wasser Reaktor), since 2009 named Kerena. Design constructed by Areva-Siemens consortium with German E.On Co., nuclear oversight utilities and several nuclear research centres. Kerena reactor is 1250 MWe and it is based on the BWR reactor operating in Gundremmingen, Germany. It has fully passive safety system and core-catcher. As ESBWR, the construction is overall simpler, what should lead to lower overnight cost. Net efficiency is 37%, fuel enrichment 3,54%. Moreover Kerena can easily works in load following mode. It can change output power between 40% and 100% at rate of 5%/min and occasionally up to rate 30%/min from 70% to 100% of reactor power. Nevertheless reactor is not in operation anywhere in the world. Design was ready in 1999, but since then reactor has not granted neither US nor EUR certification. [36],[47],[48]
