Future

Fusion projects

The most important researches taken over nuclear fusion concentrate on the most developed systems that are able to carry out the reaction. Satisfying level of technology tokamaks present. Others designs are significantly less developed. Therefore in this chapter only tokamak's projects are described. They are the most probable to come to commercial use as first. Stellarators are too complex in reference to tokamaks. However Wendelstein 7-X stellarator is under construction in Germany (planned to be ready by 2015) and it may be able to keep fusion for 30 minutes. Inertial containment and hybrid fusion methods need serious development to be considered as a future energy source. [60]
