EUROPEAN UNION ENERGY LABEL

REFRIGERATORS, FREEZERS AND COMBINED APPLIANCES

The specifications of those appliances were stated in the following directive

‘Commission Directive 2003/66/EC (energy labelling of household electric refrigerators, freezers and their combinations)‘

The Directive defines energy efficiency classes for refrigerators, freezers and combined appliances based on the energy efficiency index alpha up to the pattern:

Where: I? - energy efficiency index alpha.

AC – annual energy consumption of appliance

SC? – standard annual energy consumption ? of appliance.

  • TABLE 10: ENERGY EFFICIENCY CLASS FOR REFRIGERATORS, FREEZERS AND COMBINED APPLIANCES BASED ON [50]
  • The label also contains:

      • annual energy consumption in kW•h per year

      • capacity of fresh foods in litres for refrigerators and combined appliances

      • capacity of frozen foods in litres for freezers and combined appliances

      • noise in dB(A)

WASHING MACHINES, TUMBLE DRYERS AND COMBINED APPLIANCES

The specifications of those appliances were stated in the following directives

‘Commission Directive 96/60/EC (energy labelling of household combined washer-dryers)’

‘Commission Directive 95/13/EC (energy labelling of household electric tumble dryers)’

‘Commission Directive 95/12/EC (energy labelling of household washing machines) Amended by Directive 96/89/EC ‘

The Directive defines energy efficiency classes for washing machines based on the energy used C [kw*h] on washing in a standard cycle a cotton sample at 60C with maximum declared load.

  • TABLE 11: ENERGY EFFICIENCY CLASS FOR WASHING MACHINES BASED ON [51]
  • The label also contains:

      • total consumption per cycle

      • washing performance - with a class from A to G

      • spin drying performance - with a class from A to G

      • maximum spin speed

      • total cotton capacity in kg

      • water consumption per cycle in litres

      • noise in the washing and spinning cycles dB(A)

The Directive defines energy efficiency classes for dryers based on the energy used C [kw*h] on drying in a standard cycle a cotton sample with maximum declared load.

  • TABLE 12: ENERGY EFFICIENCY CLASS FOR CONDENSER DRYERS BASED ON [52]
  • TABLE 13: ENERGY EFFICIENCY CLASS FOR VENTED DRYERS BASED ON [52]
  • The label also contains:

      • energy consumption per cycle

      • total cotton capacity

      • whether the unit is vented or condensing

      • noise in dB(A)

The Directive defines energy efficiency classes for combined washer dryers based on the energy used C [kW*h] on full cycle (washing, twirling, drying) a cotton sample at 60C with maximum declared load.

  • TABLE 14: ENERGY EFFICIENCY CLASS FOR COMBINED WASHER DRYERS BASED ON [53]
  •   • energy consumption per cycle (washing and drying)

      • energy consumption per cycle - washing only

      • maximum spin speed

      • total cotton capacity (washing and drying separately)

      • water consumption for a full load washed and dried

      • noise in dB (A) (separately for washing, spinning and drying)

    DISHWASHERS

The specifications of those appliances were stated in the following directive

‘Commission Directive 1999/9/EC (energy labelling of household dishwashers)’

The Directive defines energy efficiency classes for dishwashers based on the energy used C [kw*h] on washing 12 place settings in a standard cycle.

  • TABLE 15: ENERGY EFFICIENCY CLASS FOR DISHWASHERS BASED ON [54]
  • The label also contains:
