Prof. Irena Wasiak graduated from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Lodz University of Technology (LUT) with specialisation in electrical power engineering. In 1988 she  received her Ph.D.  and in 2007 D.Sc. degrees. From 2009 she is the professor at the LUT.

Area of interest of prof. Wasiak encompasses: quality of supply, integration of distributed energy resources in the power system, modelling and simulation of electrical network operation. The scientific achievements includes 3 chapters in monographs published by Wiley&Sons, over 120 papers regarding power quality, electromagnetic disturbances compensation, modelling od power system equipment, integration of distributed generation in power systems and optimisation of microgrids operation. She is the reviewer of domestic and international conferences and periodicals.

Prof. Wasiak was the leader of LUT team participating in UE projects DISPOWER, DERlab, DERRI concerning the integration of distributed energy resources in power system. In 2000-2011 she was also the leader of three and the main executor of two national projects dedicated the quality of supply and optimization of operation of electrical power microgrids.

Prof. I. Wasiak was awarded the international certificate of Power Quality Specialist by Leonardo Power Quality Initiative. She is the member of IET (The Institution of Engineering & Technology), SEP,  PTETiS, supporting member of the Electotechnical Committee of Polish Academy of Sciences, deputy editor of periodical “Electrical Power Quality and Utilisation – Journal”, member of Power Quality Committee of SEP, co-chairmen of International Conference on  „Electrical Power Quality and Utilisation”.
