Jubilee 70th Institute of Electrical Power Engineering Lodz University of Technology |

The ceremony of 70th anniversary of the Institute of Electrical Power Engineering took place at the Faculty of Electrical, Electronic, Computer and Control Engineering on 23rd June 2015. At the ceremony were invited the University and Faculty authorities, the members of the institutions, which collaborate with the Institute, and former and present employees of the Institute.
At the entrance to the main auditorium, the guest were welcomed by the Directorate for the Institute and were gifted with the book “70th anniversary of the Institute of Electrical Power Engineering: it was, it is…”. This book was developed by the members of the Organizing Committee of the event. It includes the history of the Institute, which was established in June 1945. Additionally, it contains the biographies of the deserved Institute’s employees as well as the memories of some of them. The guests were also gifted with actual issue of the SEP’s newsletter, which includes the article about the Institute of Electrical Power Engineering.
The ceremony began with the welcome speech delivered by the Director of the Institute of Electrical Power Engineering, Professor Irena Wasiak. Then, Professor Irena Wasiak presented the most important events in the history of the Institute. She also discussed the research and achievements of the Institute.
After opening speech, the guests took the floor. The congratulations were expressed by Professor Sławomir Wiak, Ph.D., D.Sc., Vice-Rector for Education, Professor Sławomir Hausamn, Ph.D., D.SC., Dean of the Faculty of Electrical, Electronic, Computer and Control Engineering, President Władysław Szymczyk and Director Mieczysław Balcerek representing the SEP Branch of Łódź, Professor Andrzej Wiszniewski and Professor Jan Iżykowski from the Department of Energy Electrics at Wrocław University of Technology, Dariusz Łukaszewski and Stanisław Łęski from PGE Łódź, Bogusław Terlecki from PGE Renewable Energy S.A., Stanisław Papuga, Director pf Bełchatów Power Station, Mariusz Klimek from BTC Sp. z o.o., Professor Marek Amanowicz from Institute of Telecommunication at WAT, Professor Dominik Sankowski, Director of Institute of Applied Computer Science at LUT, Professor Andrzej Napieralski, Director of Department of Microelectronics and Computer Science at LUT and Professor Ryszard Pawlak, Director of Institute of Electrical Engineering Systems at LUT.
It should be mentioned that the representatives from SEP Branch of Łódź, President Władysław Szymczyk and Director Mieczysław Balcerek, hand the Professor Eugeniusz Jezierski Medal to Director Irena Wasiak. This prize is awarded for the contribution to the SEP, to Polish transformers industry and to Polish electrical engineering.
The second part of the ceremony began with laying flowers at the commemorative tablets of honoured professors of the Faculty and Institute of Electrical Power Engineering. They were: Professor Karol Przanowski, a specialist in the field of electrical networks, head of the Department and then Institute of Electrical Power Engineering; Professor Czesław Jaworski, an expert in the field of railways electrification, the founder of the Department of Electrical Railway and Professor Bronisław Sochor, the founder of the Department of Electroheat.
Then, the unofficial part of ceremony was begun with a toast raised by Professor Władysław Mielczarski. Guest were invited to refreshments. There was time for conversations, memories and more toasts. The culminating point was the pie with the inscription: “70 years of the Institute of Electrical Power Engineering”. The first piece of the pie was cut by Professor Zbigniew Kowalski, senior, and Michał Małaczek, PhD student.
